With a range that embraces Renaissance polyphony,
the close harmony of jazz classics
and specially commissioned new works,
Canticum has impressed audiences and critics
with its mix of technical excellence and sheer musicality.
Mozart Requiem by Candlelight
and a first performance of a new work
by Stephen McNeff,
The Walking Shadows.
This tells the stories of four people in a landscape of war,
referencing music of the time and setting an Aoife Mannix text
drawn from letters and reports of the time.
It was commissioned with financial assistance
from Arts Council England and Apples and Snakes.
The work is designed as a companion piece
for Mozartís exhilarating Requiem,
performed in the second half.
Canticum is joined by top chamber orchestra Counterpoint,
and a team of exceptional young soloists:
Lucy Bray Soprano, Amy Lyddon Mezzo-Soprano,
Michael Bennett Tenor, Steffan Lloyd Owen Baritone.
